The more time I spend worshiping God and the more time I give to listening to His voice, the more my life is encompassed by the Music of Heaven. This is a wonderful, mystical thing that I am often unaware of throughout the day, but the music and lyrics never leave my soul.  Sometimes my ears are cued to its beauty as I hear someone speak words that sound like His words or I observe grace in someone’s life and I’m keenly aware they are moving to The Music.

There is nothing quite as sweet as hearing a message of hope 'sung' by one of God’s people. The sweet, pure sound of the Gospel strikes a chord deep within, like a tuning fork. The sound sensed on earth lines up perfectly with the Song of Heaven - there is nothing like it. It's like a taste of things to come when we will be fully surrounded with the symphony of heaven. As we live here on earth, we can be moved by that very song. The more we saturate our lives with that song of grace, mercy and love, the more compelled we are to be moved by it. It sweeps over us and all that matters is the Father and His perfect will.

Just as my heart is set to soar at the sound of that Divine echo; my heart is also affected by those who claim to be musicians but carry a very different tune. There is a dissonance to their chords; something is simply not right. Instead of keeping the major clarity, man embellishes the chords and it becomes minor.  Sometimes people, who started out knowing the music, decide to take the music into their own hands and they become a mimic musician. Not hearing the perfect pitch of the Spirit, they tune the message to their own hearts and become tone deaf to the Divine. As followers of Jesus Christ, to reference such sources is dangerous. To refer to two different tones creates confusion. More than ever, we need to live focused lives - listening only to the Father and those who are in tune with Him.

The world may not know the theological details of Christianity but they know from a far off who is flat and who is playing in key. Keep your heart tuned to God. Shut out the tone deaf and musical mimics. Don't embellish the divine. Tune your heart by listening to God’s heart - continually. His music will captivate our soul and ignite our spirit and cause our lives to sing in perfect unison with Him.

Colossians 1:4
For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus [the leaning of your entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness] and of the love which you [have and show] for all the saints (God's consecrated ones)

My life cannot be dependant on the ones I hold dear but on the dear Hands that holds me. It can be tempting to cling, longing for security, to those we love; especially for those who have lost someone in the past. Learning to embrace and release is a vital, crucial lesson that we must come to terms with in order to live with a healthy perspective of life.

In order to reach our potential in life, we must live completely secured in the love and presence of God. From that beautiful strength we are able to love and we are able to endure loss without being shaken. God's love enhances all human love and it bonds our hearts together for eternity. In truth, we never lose someone who we have walked with in God's Kingdom.

More than ever, this is a season in history where we must have our focus secure - our lives planted - leaning on nothing and no one else but God. Secure in Christ we cannot be shaken. In Christ we have the deep, soul nourishment that strengthens and enables us to stand in every storm and shine in the deepest darkness.

This is the time to stand! This is the time to shine! Don't look to the left or right; don't lean left or right. Lock on to Christ and let Him hold you, secure in His love. His sweet affection will make you able to walk through and stand strong and do all He has destined for you to do. Look to Him, lean only on Him.

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all light, in Whom there can be no variation or shadow cast by His turning.

A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart…

Thankfulness is powerful! It lifts our hearts up to enjoy life like nothing else can! Focusing on all that is good in our lives, thanking God and those dear to us, is a beautiful way to live because it causes us to see the good things in life. Our feelings are always a reaction to our focus. There is good and bad in everyone’s life. We can meditate (mentally focus) on the bad or we can choose to lock on to the good; that choice determines our level of happiness. The choice always remains our own.

Focusing on goodness is like looking into the realm of God. Everything good comes down from the Father. When Moses looked at God, he saw His goodness and was totally transformed. We can have that encounter any time we want! Let Thankfulness turn your focus to all the good that God has done in your life! Look to God. That decision will lift your life to a whole new level of joy.

Hosea 13:13
The pains of a woman in childbirth are coming on for him [to be born]; but he is an unwise son, for now when it is time [to be born], he comes not to the place where [unborn] children break forth [he needs new birth but makes no effort to acquire it].

Lately God has been speaking to my heart about "effort" inspiring me to dare to pursue a sweeter relationship with Him. Love is spelled w-o-r-k. Jesus initiated our relationship with the tremendous investment of His own life. Now He calls us to surrender ours to Him.

Great relationships require commitment, an investment of time and care; they don't grow without it. The quality of my relationship with my husband, my kids, and my friends is a direct result of the effort invested into each; the greater the investment the sweeter outcome.

This year I encourage you, make an effort to open your life more to God. Dare to take the time normally used for self comfort and see what it would be like to rest in prayer and ask God to comfort you. Let your curiosity be stirred and be open to explore the possibilities. Ask God for more revelation of His love and then dive into the Bible as if you were digging for diamonds.

Jesus is life and the life He gives is a beautiful, majestic terrain filled with love and purpose. Life is not delivered on silver platters to the lazy; it is a treasure offered freely to all those who will carve it out from the Divine mines of God's goodness.

Paul said the finest thing in life was to know Christ and the power of His resurrection. Life in Christ is a mysterious wonder that He intended for us to experience fully! Let nothing hinder or distract you -let nothing else satisfy your soul. Make the effort! Turn off the gadgets... Go after God!

Proverbs 31:17&18

She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.

She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night [of trouble, privation, or sorrow, warning away fear, doubt, and distrust].

There are many seasons in the life of a woman. We begin life as a daughter and sister; dependant on others. Then as we maintain those identities we add many others: some take on the role of a wife and mother, many are also providers and advocates for those around them and others become temporarily dependant on us.

Seasons ebb and flow and the emphasis on any given role changes. It could be tempting to feel confused or obsolete in some of those seasons. But we don't need to be afraid - we need to be prepared. Our position and strength depend on our readiness. We must be sober minded and recognize that seasons change and our roles change. Our value is not found in any role we acquire through life. Our value is set eternally by God's unwavering love for us.

As you to look to changes that lie ahead, gird yourself now with strength. Remind yourself that you were not created for one season but for all seasons; to be strong and flourish throughout life. Don't be afraid - stick close to God. Make every season all about walking with Him, sharing life together. He will enable you and me to flourish - even through times of loss and deep sorrow. His grace gives us power to live above and beyond what's normal to those who live without Him. God is able to cause us to always walk in victory, with great hope for the future.

As I look to the changing seasons in my life, it helps me to draw close to God and write out a reminder of who I am. I encourage you to do the same. Stay close to Him and let love arise and stir up hope. The best is yet to come.

My journal... January 1, 2012

I was not created to be a mother… alone.
I was not created to be a wife… alone.
I was created to be a daughter of the Most High
A help to humanity; a sister to some
A friend to all who love Christ
A light to someone’s darkness
A living testament of God’s greatness to those who need good news

My life is not bound by the past
Limited to the present
Or frightened by the future
My life is a vessel for God to fill & satisfy
A treasure to invest in my family and share with the world
I will not cling to any aspect of what my life has been or what it is today
I will cling to Christ alone and look to Him for all the love, peace and hope that I need.

He IS life and in Him – I find mine.

Proverbs 3:5
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

Sometimes kids think "no" means they are being neglected.                                         Good Parents know better.
Sometimes teenagers think the people who don't agree with them are against them. Good Parents know better.
Sometimes adults think when things aren't going as planned, they have been forgotten...
God knows better.

~ Sandy's journal Dec 7/11

As time goes by I find myself treasuring more and more the perspective that comes with maturity. To be able to see a situation objectively is something that didn't come easy to me - and I certainly have not yet "arrived". I know many others face the same challenge. The real difference didn't come with age but with the practice of listening to the Father speak to my heart. I don't believe maturity is reserved for the aged; it's available to anyone who will lay down self dependency and look to the Father.

God's love reveals a deep sense of security that gives us confidence to pause and wait for wisdom as we survey life's challenges. No one "arrives" at maturity - it is a perpetual process.

As we spend more time listening to the voice of God and leaning on His amazing love we find the peace that frees us and gives us eyes to see He is ever-present with us. Recognizing He is with us and dearly in love with us, trust has a firm foundation, wisdom is welcomed and perspective is gained.

If some place in life, some decision seems daunting - spend time meditating on the goodness and certainty of God's love in your life. Fix your eyes on His unfailing love and He will show you everything you need know.

1 John 4:6

We are [children] of God. Whoever is learning to know God [progressively to perceive, recognize, and understand God by observation and experience, and to [e]get an ever-clearer knowledge of Him] listens to us; and he who is not of God does not listen or pay attention to us. By this we know (recognize) the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error.

A week ago God spoke to me about His desire for believers to bring the dead places of their lives to Him so that He could bring life. There was a phrase He used that really puzzled me; He pointed out the cause of death: "narcissism, nepotism and every other neo-pagan god" To be honest, I wasn't sure if those three belonged together. True to form, He has been unfolding the meaning since that day.

Neo-paganism is something that we would associate with Wicca, Druidism and other odd mystical cults but to God it is the presence of any source other than Himself. Wicca worships and trusts in “Mother Earth” for provision and guidance. We can look at that practice and laugh or roll our eyes, but to God, some of our sources look equally as foolish. If we are relying on human wisdom or effort (narcissism or nepotism - being the ones He happened to mention) we are turned away from Him in an attempt to secure our own well being. We cannot secure “a hope and a future” for ourselves – by ourselves. God alone has the power to bring about the fullness of life for humanity.

In a teaching by Bob Hamp - The War Jesus Came to Win - this subject is addressed and he calls those things that turn our dependency away from Christ – “anti-Christ”.

1 John 4 speaks about love and how to live lives saturated by God's love. It also states that the spirit of the anti-Christ (in Amplified version =agents of anti-Christ) is in opposition to this great thing God calls us to: love. As children of God - we are not to have any connection to outside sources. And why would we? God’s love is more powerful and satisfying than we will ever comprehend this side of eternity. This richness is His will for us. No other source can redeem, raise up, restore, and reward a life like the love of God!

When God is our source the results are nothing short of amazing! We are fully satisfied! Our lives radiate His goodness and mercy. People are drawn to His grace through His extravagant love overflowing in our lives. It’s not something we have to pump up – it something we soak up!

This week as we walk with God, let's ask Him to show us - one by one - any source we are depending on that turns us away from Him. He will reveal the dry wells; restore our broken places and refresh our lives with His presence! He will amaze us! The best is yet to come!

Grace and peace to all of you this week! May Christ's sweet love flood our lives!

John 15:4
Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.

John 15:5
I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

John 15:16
You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you.

There are two kinds of fruit in my house. One is a decoration that somebody "worked" for so that somebody could make a living. It will never sustain anybody but... hey... it looks good.

The other fruit is in my fridge. It's the product of creation, vision and nurturing (allowing "life" to do its thing). It not only is alive but it perpetuates life.
Plastic... Real... BIG difference.

I want my life to bear fruit that will last... fruit that will perpetuate life. It begins with a life planted in Christ and nurtured by the Holy Spirit. My faith is fixed in the power of that relationship and in the promise of all that it will produce.

Song of Sol. 6:3

I am my beloved's [garden] and my beloved is mine!

Some time ago, I was listening to someone pour out her heart, disclosing her fear of the future.  Her pain level was almost maxed out speculating how the days ahead were going to be full of disappointment. At first I wanted to try to help her see the bright side, the possibilities of a good outcome. After exhausting myself as a cheer leader, I gave up. I realized there was nothing I could do to help this person overcome fear. Finally, I remembered a new  pattern I have adopted for my own life and I offered it. Instead of focusing on the problem, I suggest she turn to God and ask Him to tell her how He sees her future. We'll return to this story in a moment.

Hope cannot be founded on anything else but God. Whenever we make a person, event or thing our primary focus or desire we set ourselves up for misery. We become slaves to someone else's choice; to the chance of circumstance; or to meaningless "stuff". This behavior creates continual insecurity - there is no secure place for hope to settle. Square pegs don't fit in the place that belongs to God. Make God and His way of living the primary focus & desire of the heart & life will flourish - effortlessly! Seek first - God. Ask Him to tell you what life looks like when He is first.

Back to the story of the woman: When I shared these thoughts, she resisted initially - she was so used to "feeling" her way around through life;  focused prayer and listening for God's word on her life was a whole new way to function. I knew it was something she wanted to work through alone, so I gave her the space she needed. The next day when our paths crossed again, she was a whole new person. She heard God speak a very simple promise of hope and her heart sailed instantly.

As much as we want to help people, there is a limit to what we can do. Mentors, teachers, pastors, leaders can never replace the inspirational power of a word heard directly from God.

If you are hungry for hope, open the Bible to a passage that causes you to believe that God is for you; read it aloud; meditate on it; ask God to speak those words FRESH over you. Allow yourself to be amazed and feel His presence wash over you. Nothing and no one can replace the wonder of belonging to God.

John 6:35

Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).

God’s greatest desire is not for us to fulfill our destiny but that we would find fulfillment in Him. This is the mark of a fruitful believer – the awareness that their only need is God. Through the fulfillment of that need great, truly great ministry happens all around them. There is nothing so compelling as a person who walks through life - fulfilled by God.

This fulfillment is the very key to reaching our potential. God can only place us in the “garden” of our dreams if we are able to resist the temptation to “go it alone” and fulfill ourselves. We must live by every Word that He speaks over us and feed our souls by them. The enemy will constantly try to entice us to feed ourselves – our flesh. We can overcome temptation by staying “full”. I’ve never had a problem turning down “seconds” when I’m full from dinner. When we continually draw on the Father for our daily bread and for the sweet fresh water of the Word – we will have no appetite for the “seconds” of this world. We will see it for what it is – dead, decaying poison.

Father, I look to you to draw my heart away from worthless junk. Continually draw me to the bread of life and the river that never runs dry. Lead me and draw me into your perpetual feast of love, hope and faith. Give me strength; startle me if I am seduced by materialism or ambition - any human attempt to feed my soul and lead me to the sweet, satisfying companionship that You continually offer me.

Psalm 25:14 - The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.

Exodus 25:22
There I will meet with you and, from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are upon the ark of the Testimony, I will speak intimately with you of all which I will give you in commandment to the Israelites

Exodus 33:11
And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the [temporary prayer] tent

1 Samuel 3:10
And the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, Samuel! Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.

We are voice activated. It's amazing to think that the sound of His voice has created all that exists. With His voice, God formed all of creation and set it into motion. It's even more amazing to know that nothing has changed - the sound of His voice still transforms darkness to light and causes life to spring up. It's a wonderful, miraculous thing to hear the voice of the Lord. He wants to be so close to us that we live from every word that comes out of His mouth. His words both create and transform.

We were created to have relationship with Him and hear Him speak, just as we hear the voice of our best friend. Unlike any human encounter, however, when God speaks - life springs up and flourishes. Is there some place your life that needs to have life spoken to it? Some place that is not yet flourishing? I need His voice desperately - we all do! When was the last time you listened for His voice?

The day we committed our lives to Christ, the Father changed our hearts, He made us able to hear Him. He gave us a new heart so that we could hear His heart. If you have not been aware of His voice to this point in your life, ask Him to help you recognize His voice. God always speaks life to His people - He promised we would know His voice. Encourage your heart today by opening the Bible - theWord of God, and find a life building passage; then as you look at those verses, ask God to speak those promises directly to you. His voice activates our soul and causes us to flourish with life.

Speak, Lord, your servants are listening.

Ecclesiastes 7:10
Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise or because of wisdom that you ask this.

Isaiah 65:1
I WAS [ready to be] inquired of by those who asked not; I was [ready to be] found by those who sought Me not...

Jeremiah 33:3
Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).

One of the most powerful lessons I have learned in life is the importance of asking the right question. The right question connects us to the right information needed for life. It is like a sieve straining out information and reserving the best answer for a given area. It can make the different between moving ahead, backwards or even remaining stuck in the place we are at presently. The right question makes a big difference.

Several times in my prayer life I have asked God a question and heard "Wrong question; ask Me... " God is full of wisdom and though we may want explanations or answers, often what we think we need isn't really what's best for us. We may seek the answer to a temporary dilemma, but God knows what would help us most is a revelation of His love for us to see us through the challenge.

As you spend time in prayer this week, consider what you are asking God. You should be asking - because He's ready to respond. And as you're asking, be sensitive to His direction. Allow Him to guide your prayers. Begin by asking, "What would you like me to know as I face this day?"  Then wait for the still small voice to fill your heart with Words of Life. God will hear and He will answer - it's His delight to share His heart with yours.

Zachariah 4:6

... This [addition of the bowl to the candlestick, causing it to yield a ceaseless supply of oil from the olive trees] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of Whom the oil is a symbol], says the Lord of hosts.

In every believer's life there are moments of opportunity to influence people for eternity. Through loving words or acts of service we can bring light into dark places. Sometimes those opportunities are easy to seize and kindness flows with little effort. Other moments require us to lean on God for the ability to shine.

I am convinced there are three zones an ambassador of Christ can function from. These are not a theological doctrine, just a reflection on what I have faced as a minister of the Gospel, as I travel on the path of maturity:

1. Acts of Kindness - The zone where I give compassion to people who are easy to love. I usually don't have much resistance from my own attitudes - there's alot of joy in giving kindness. But giving to those easy to love, is not a challenge - even unbelievers can do that.  It tends to be the next levels where I realize my limitations.

2. Acts of Mercy - This is the zone where God asks me to offer service to people who, by natural standards, don't "deserve" kindness. (Of course, none of us deserve it). For those whose spriritual gift is mercy - this may seem effortless to you. Keep in mind, my top gifts are faith and prophesy; so mercy is a challenge for me.

It's in this level of ministry where I begin to sense my need to completely depend on God's  nature of compassion. This is the zone where, when I lean on Him, miracles start happening. God-breathed compassion always precedes miracles. This is a level that I frequently have opportunity for growth.

3. Acts of Faith - This depth of dependency is one where I long to live; well, at least my spirit longs to live there. It's a zone where natural securities cannot survive - the "flesh" finds no comfort here. It's the place where we can step out and do anything God asks of us, with no visible end in sight. Like Abraham following God to the land that He would eventually show him. Faith is the territory where God thrives and if we dare to meet Him there, so do we.

Thankfully, God meets us where we are and leads us into deeper faith. As you consider your dependency on Christ and your service to others, consider this: What would He do in your life, if you would get out of the way?

Let Him set you free from whatever limits you:  fear, selfishness, unforgiveness. Ask Him to show you the depth of His love toward you - be still and let Him touch your heart. His redeeming love in you is this birthplace of all ministry.

Ask Him to show you a glimpse of the life He wants to give you. Wait quietly and peacefully as you pray. This prayerful practise will strengthen your heart. Not only will it profoundly satisfy you but it will enable you touch the lives of others with the precious love of God.

Psalm 100:5

For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

There have been times in my journey with Jesus when I found myself in weakened state of faith, not trusting Him with complete conviction and abandon - as He so completely deserves. It's the result of hearing, often tiny, doubtful messages over time. Thoughts I have on my own or the verbalized doubts of friends and family; these ideas snow ball without my awareness and before long I find myself acting on the basis of my own wisdom instead of His Word. Fear (motivated by doubt) provokes me to take control of things with my own wisdom. The whole cycle is initiated by listening to the wrong message.

Just like faith is stirred by hearing, doubt comes the same way; by listening to slanderous words against God's character. These words create a case for doubt and if there is no stance against it when it happens (either verbally or mentally) those words will create a case against God. It's never our intention to allow it; it is part of human nature. The only way to combat it is through an awareness of the pattern, repentance of current strongholds of doubt and humility to consider everything God says to be truth, receiving it into our lives.

You may find yourself in a place where you cannot see God's goodness. Don't doubt based on logic or any other human sensory factor. Open the Word and go to prayer. Look to God and listen to what He says about Himself. Listen! Ask Him to speak to you and reveal the lies you have believed about Him. Repent of those things and ask Him to replace those lies with the truth. Turn from human "inspiration" and doubt and live face to face with God. Listen to His Words of Life and faith will spring up like a garden and take root in your life! When we open our minds to His definition of Himself, our faith takes flight and our hearts are settled in true peace, finding a home within His love.

July 9, 2011

It's been a full month of ministry and study. I have been very inspired by the teaching of Freedom Ministries from Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. They have such a pure perspective on the Gospel and it's effect on humanity. With so much inspiration going on during the day I have found myself having very prophetic dreams. The following blog is my second dream:

I was preparing to preach to huge mass of people but first I had to deal with a controlling woman. She left in a huff and I pursued her to bring restoration. She repented. In the meantime the masses became a small group. I stood up to preach to this small group of people all shaken by the vast drop in numbers.

I heard these words: Everyone who pursues God based on selfish gain or exaltation will fall like flies in the heat. Only those who pursue righteousness will remain.

I woke up and heard these words: Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteous...

May the wise take it to heart.
We must deal with the Jezebels - some will repent.
We must prepare ourselves for a great change in the church, "The love of the great body will grow cold"
We must keep ourselves from the distractions and the deceitfulness and discipline our lives - especially making time to celebrate God and hear His voice and to encourage each other.
We must proclaim His Gospel and make His goodness known throughout the earth.
Praise to God - forever

Ephesian 4:23

And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind

[having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude]

Living as a leader means daily inspiring others to live with hope. Hope is the refresh button we have on the keyboard of our life. It's a divine gift offered to every human being and it's a vital part of our lives. As a leader we not only have to distribute messages of hope - we have to live it out ourselves. We cannot take people where we have never been in life. Hope is created by filling our minds with the truth of God's Word; it literally refreshes our lives and energizes us for the future.

I meet people everyday who face seemingly insurmountable odds and I have to remind myself constantly that I must never measure a mountain. My job as a ministry leader is to accurately convey the greatness of God. The one true living God is greater than any mountain this life will ever see.  Countless times I have seen Him work wonders in impossible settings. He is not limited. Hope is stripped away when we measure mountains but faith is ignited when survey the size of our God. Infinite in mercy and wisdom and available to all who call on His name - that's our God!

We live a culture where the best advertising gimmicks are blasting at us constantly. With the over-saturation of sales pitches, one thing stands strong and sells: authentic experience. As we endeavor to proclaim hope to those we serve, it's vital to remember that the best messenger is the one who knows the King. The leader who is privately familiar with and steeped in the kindness, mercy and hope of God, is unarguably influential in leading others to trust Him.

In all you do as a leader - pursue God's presence! Personally allow hope to flood your life and then guard your heart! As you spend time with Him, He will reveal more and more of His goodness and you will be strengthen and solidified in your role as a leader of hearts and a messenger of hope.

2 Chronicles 20:30
And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.

Find a safe, quiet, peaceful place that will offer an interruption free setting. This may include the farm field of a family friend, a safe setting in another outdoor location, or like many throughout the decades - your own closet. If you have kids, it will require some day-care planning. Whatever it takes – create your place of solitude. Be prepared to hear God’s whispers of hope and encouragement. Bring your Bible, notebook and pen; you won’t want to forget what you hear and experience.

Bring all your troubles to Jesus and lay them down. Without prolonging this aspect, thoroughly commit all matters to God - let them go. Simply release them to Him like the launching of a hundred helium balloons; let them go and let God take care of you. Turn your focus to His goodness and faithfulness. Keep that focus throughout the entire time of rest. Keep your thoughts centered on God’s love for you. Allow His grace to wash your mind and soul and enjoy His peace. From that point, follow the Spirit. If you start to cry – cry. If you start to laugh – laugh. If you want to sing – sing. The sweetness of the discipline of solitude is simple – you finally get to be alone with God. It’s like heaven on earth.  Just rest and enjoy Him.

Mark 1:35

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up,
left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

The wisdom shared with me was this: For those who continually are pouring out hope and help into the lives of others, rest is critical. Not just the typical get your "8 hours per night" rest, but a very special kind of refreshing was suggested. This elder of the faith pointed me to Jesus and His practice of solitude. The discipline of solitude is not one we hear about in our fast past, loud, "iTunes" culture. We are used to constant sensory stimulation. The radio, TV, guitar (if you live at my house), the telephone and the computer - all in the same room, in full swing. Go for a walk in your neighborhood at night and see the flickering blue light of TVs all around you. Sight, sounds, ceaseless stimuli; culture suggests this is normal and has no effect on our soul. Wisdom says otherwise.

Do a study of any great hero of faith: Moses, David, Joseph, Esther, Paul and especially Jesus Himself, and you will find a common pattern of behavior. Each of these individuals and countless others all practiced the discipline of solitude. Solitude is not a negative condition – it is pure bliss. It's definitely the single most influential discipline I have practiced. (And need to practice more routinely). It begins by turning off all sensory apparatus; with no blaring lights or sounds the soul can rest in a conscious state – awake and aware. Some Christians may check out right about now, thinking this is some mid-Eastern thing. Solitude is as Christian as Christ Himself. It is the wise discipline of spending prolonged quiet time alone with God; silently, peacefully, gratefully listening... lingering.

Psalm 55:6

I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!

I would fly away and be at rest.

There are countless demands on your life each week: people in need, questions to answer, problems to solve, decisions and provisions to make. All these good things can put great stress on the human body and stress is the biggest obstacle to longevity and enjoying the journey. So, let me ask you… How are you doing managing stress?

King David was surrounded by responsibility, need, trouble and conflict. We have the benefit of many of his thoughts being recorded for our encouragment. One day he had enough and wishfully dreamed of growing wings and flying away. Been there? I know - me too.

I love the work God has given me to do and I love the demands that constantly require me to look to God and live courageously. But, sometimes I get wiped out tired! Recently, I spoke to a ministry veteran who does the same job I do, caring for the poor. She told me her secret to rejuvenation. It was something God had been proving already in my life and calling me to develop with greater diligence. If I would practice this one discipline continually, I would be refreshed and have renewed wisdom and creativity to face the challenges for the rest of my life.

Colossians 2:9&10

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,
and in Christ you have been brought to fullness...

As women we are hard wired with a nurturing aspect that causes us to care for humanity. If you've ever had a baby, you have felt that instinct in full form. God is a nurturer, so it's no surprise to see that trait within the human soul. One of my favorite moments in life will always be the quiet moments spent nursing my infant children - the great bond between a mother and baby is reinforced and enriched in those moments.

Humanity - we out grow the need for nursing early in life, but we never out grow the need for nurture. To nurture is to nourish - whether physically, mentally or spiritually. Every human being requires nurturing. A common trap in this reality is found when an adult looks excessively to others for what cannot be humanly exchanged. We were created ultimately for a Divine bond. Nothing else will substitute for what God alone provides; and any attempt for outside satisfaction will only frustrate the hungry soul. As Christians we are to be good to each other - but our kindness only embellishes the real soul food from heaven.

I was adopted from birth. I never experienced the mystical bond of nursing as a baby, myself, but I have found and live by the divine nourishment that God offers. It's tempting to look to the people around me for the deep soul food I require to live by; yet every time I make that choice my soul suffers. The solution to a frustrated soul is simple. Recognize that imitation "milk" cannot strengthen or nourish - God alone satisfies the soul.

Do you find yourself dissatisfied and frustrated? Quiet your life. Remind yourself of that primary relationship you were created for - being loved by God and loving Him in return. Remind youself that He is your sole source of all supply. Mercifully, release people from the role of savior, healer, and redeemer. Release them from the role of your comforter, provider, restorer, or lover of your soul. There is only One who has the ability to be “all that” to you – Christ Alone.

Zech 7:9
This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

Matt 5:7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Matt 9:13
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

How could I ever write someone off, when God is so busy trying to sign them up? I thought this to myself yesterday, as I worked around my kitchen. There’s nothing like a little quiet housework to give a woman time to think over her day.

My job gives me the privilege of working with some people who are very dear to God’s heart – the poor. It wasn’t the direction I expected for my life, but it has become one of the greatest works He has ever done within me. There’s not time or space to contain the lessons I have learned and the heart transformation it has caused. I will sum up gratefully by saying, He has shown me His heart for humanity.

In the eyes of God – we are all poor. Jesus left the splendor of heaven and became one of us. He became poor so that we may become rich in the matters of life. We were impoverished by sin and He destroyed the chains of poverty to give us God’s great life. His mercy toward us is so great. As a believer, a sure sign that His heart is beating within me is the measure of mercy for those who need it most.

God is at work, drawing the lost, calling the broken. His work is our work. Pride and prejudice are enemies to our calling; we are called to be ambassadors of His kingdom. I pray that His great love – and what it’s really like – will consume us and fill us with compassion and mercy for each other and for the lost. After all, how could we write anyone off when God is so busy trying to sign them up?

1 Corinthians 2:14

But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ's victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere,

One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from the original movie "The King & I" where the King of Siam majestically waltzes around a beautiful courtyard with the little English teacher in her glorious ball gown. It made such an impression on me that later in life, I made my husband take ballroom dance lessons for eight weeks, hoping we could have our "court yard" moment. We never progressed to that level, but we had a great time laughing at ourselves. It was quite an accomplishment for both of us to grasp the concepts and make them work. There were two key principles that started us out on the right foot. Pun intended.

The first key to dancing well is to set our focus properly. With dancing involving the movement of our feet, it was tempting to always look down; constantly looking down leads to trouble. First of all, our heads would bang together and secondly, it caused us to bump into anyone in our path. Not to graceful. Looking up allowed us better balance and control; our feet did what we lead them to do without us watching them. Focus in dancing and in life is critical - we move in the direction of our focus.

The second key is to lean in to each other, creating a bond; a strong stance or form that remains in tact throughout every turn. It seemed unnatural at first to press forward into my husband but it worked and when we practiced good form - it was easier to flow together. The same is true in our "dance" of faith. When we press into God and lean on Him, we are easily directed and lead through every twist and turn of life. We can move as one.

The true beauty of dancing well is more than personal enjoyment - though it is pure pleasure; it is an inspiration to others to join in the dance. When we are looking intently into the loving face of God and leaning on Him, our "dance" is a beautiful thing to behold. It is like a fragrance that spreads all around and draws others toward the dance floor.  Like the impression that movie made on me the first time I saw it; from that point on I wanted to experience that kind of dancing.

Don't let anything make you 'sit this one out'. This life is your song and Jesus is asking you to dance. Rise up, focus on Him, press forward and dance. Enjoy every step of learning and growing together with Him. Enjoy Him! And watch as the sweet embrace you share inspires others to dance.

1 Samuel 3:9

So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

There are seasons of life that can make you feel like you are in a three ring circus - spinning plates for everyone. The more people you are responsible for, the plates you will have to watch over. In these seasons it's often critical to pull back briefly to a quiet, restful place; listening for God's clarifying direction. God is not the author of confusion; He leads His sheep with clear, concise direction. He leads us beside still waters and restores us.

If you have found yourself tired or overwhelmed; if some of your plates are tottering, this may be a very good time to take a brief retreat. Lie down, quiet your soul and listen to the Father's direction. He will teach you how to manage everything you've got going: what needs to go - what needs to stay and how to maintain it.

Below, is a sample of how God has helped me find clarity and conciseness for my responsibilities. Keeping first things first will help me. Making time for the inner life will definitely strengthen the outer one. I pray that you will find sweet comfort as you lay down and listen to the Father speak to you. He will raise you up in newness of life.

My life is meant to be...

1. To be close to God

• Spend time with Him (Bible study, meditation & listening prayers)
• Believe Him completely
• Enjoy His goodness

2. To be close to my family

• Spend time with them
• Believe in them, encouraging them to live well
• Enjoy them

3. To be generous with the needy

• Disciplined finances – ready to give
• Stop to see them and hear their hearts
• Pray with them – connect them to God

4.  To be excellent Spirit, Soul & Body

• Health begins with wisdom – know & do what is right
• Wisdom gives birth to discipline – govern with wisdom
• Be thankful. Contentment + godliness silences lust & satisfies life

5.  To be enjoyed

• Love God – completely; pour His love into people; listen, trust, celebrate and rest until I see Him – face to face.

Isaiah 1:26
I will restore your leaders as in days of old, your rulers as at the beginning...

Habakkuk 1:5
Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

These are perilous times in which we live. Aside from natural disasters, one can't help but recognize the unravelling of kingdoms, leaders, and humanity itself. The Bible speaks of all these as signs of the final day; there's nothing surprising to a well read Christian. People  will grow increasingly self centered; pride will escalate in leadership and the result of pride - strife and war between people and nations. Even within the church there will be a falling away of many people. The Bible says that "the love of the great body will grow cold". Pride is the tool of mass destruction in this culture. Thank God , we know the enemy's tactics and how to overcome.  God gives the victory.

If the current events or the strife that surrounds you causes you to feel afraid, remind yourself of these great truths:

God is in the restoration business! He will redeem and restore. Always keep the promise of His ever-presence and faithful workmanship before you.

God is perfecting His church! There is no need to be discouraged when it comes to matters of the church. God will have His way. Just walk with Him, He will fill your life with His love - enabling you to love Him and love people.

God will keep you to the end! He preserves those who stay close to Him. (Psalm 91) Stay close to God! He will provide everything you need to finish strong.

Live like Jesus to the end! Don't let anything distract or dissuade you from walking out your purpose everyday. Bring the love, mercy and healing of Christ to every person who is willing to listen. This "front line" living will give you the privilege of watching God move and enjoy the miracle of salvation over and over.

Yes, God is on the move and He will continue to fulfill His work and complete it. He is doing something great among us. Revealing the hollowness of all that once charmed us, He is turning our hearts toward Him. God is bringing His redemptive work to a great climax. This is no time to be afraid - lift up your eyes, lift up your voice; your Redeemer is approaching.

Genesis 5:22

... Enoch walked faithfully with God...

Genesis 6:9

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

Micah 6:8

... what does the LORD require of you?... act justly... love mercy... walk humbly with your God.

11 Cor. 6:16

... God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Are you aware of the fact that you're not alone? I know, it sounds like the opener to some strange, scary movie - but wait. I'm not kidding - and there's nothing to be scared of. If you've been a Christian for very long you've probably got all the old terminology down: "Emanuel" "God is with us"... and if you've heard these terms extensively over time, you may have become desensitized to the power of that truth.

But stop for a moment... Do you feel anything when you say those words? Does the thought of God's presence permeate your consciousness? Do you really know that The One True Living God is with you?

Slow your thoughts down for a moment. Totally stop. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and speak these words slowly - out loud. "God is with me."

The Bible is full of promises stating His unwavering commitment to never leave our side. Even when we waiver in our faithfulness, He remains faithful. If you are not convinced of this fact, take the time to search out His promise personally. Go to your favorite Bible study website and dig into the Word of God. It will revolutionize your confidence in God and enable you to enjoy what you already have - His enduring love.

Jeremiah 15:19

Therefore thus says the Lord [to Jeremiah]: If you return [and give up this mistaken tone of distrust and despair], then I will give you again a settled place of quiet and safety, and you will be My minister; and if you separate the precious from the vile [cleansing your own heart from unworthy and unwarranted suspicions concerning God's faithfulness], you shall be My mouthpiece. [But do not yield to them.] Let them return to you--not you to [the people].

Recently I was recalling a season in my life when I was very active in the Worship Dept. of our church. Music was a big part of my life and my specialty was singing. As a vocalist, I learned how to use my voice as an instrument. Vocal exercises and training helped me to become excellent at my craft. The music didn't just happen; it was the result of training and discipline. One of the most important skills for a vocalist is good breath control. Singing is the original "wind" instrument and requires disciplined breathing or the result will be a very flat tone.

The same is true in our Christian life. A strong Christian isn't just born in a moment at an altar - they are the result of focus, training and discipline. When we see someone who is struggling or if we are struggling ourselves to keep a bright, faith-filled "tone" in life, it's often because there's a lack of support. How can that tone be made bright and pure? Take away the weights that pull life down and be surrounded with the Truth that sets the heart free.

Strength comes as we wait on God, listening to His voice, meditating on His promises. Our hearts are energized and faith springs to life as we inhale the breath of life - the Word of God. Don't be discouraged when life gets you down - take a deep breath and look to Jesus - you will be lifted up!

Philippians 4:8

For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

The mind is a powerful tool, full of potential. Like many other facets of life, it begins in seed form, requiring a tremendous amount of work in order to see its fullness realized. There's just no easy way around it; in order to become fully mature mentally, we have to become highly disciplined.

As children, we are governed by those in authority over us regarding education and mental development. As adults, the person governing our potential is the one we see in the mirror. As Christians we have an amazing advantage, we have been given God's divine help. We have been given a new way of thinking - the mind of Christ. We have also been given the gift of the Holy Spirit who is our teacher concerning all matters of life and godliness. We have such a powerful advantage but all of this is still dependant on our willingness to submit ourselves to discipline.

Every thought that enters our mind must be evaluated: does it originate from us, from evil, or from the wisdom of God? Every thought - at first that may seem overwhelming - but as we practice daily disciplines, bringing every thought into captivity and submitting it to the wisdom of God, it becomes part of our mental processing.

It is possible to think well and live well. God would never ask us to do something that we could not accomplish. He is our help in time of need. Sometimes, as we endeavor to think well, we may feel we desperately need His help. Don't fear - God is near and able to help in these very practical areas of life. Don't let the mountain of negative thinking intimidate you. Conquer it - with Christ!

John 5:30

... because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me.

During a quiet moment of prayer and reflection I found myself prompted by a question stirring around my heart; a question that demanded a response. I have often found myself driven by a desire to leave a legacy for my children and for the next generation. For many years, the idea of creating something that would outlast me was the ultimate achievement in my mind. As I considered this briefly today I had to ask myself, "Why do I want to leave a legacy?"

That one question created a landslide of several others: "Is it to propel my children and others further along in faith? Is it just to meet some inner need or prove my value to an imaginary enemy of the past?" These are sobering critical questions because quite frankly, it's very possible and even common to do the right things for the wrong reasons. The line between pure passion and selfish ambition can often be blurred by deception, so I must do what mature believers do when a question arises: I will go to the Word and to prayer.

First, as I search out scriptures I look directly to Jesus Himself. No one wanted better for their children or humanity more than He did. No one deserved to be famous and remembered more than Him - the Son of God. What was His mindset as He lived out His life and considered what He would leave behind? Jesus Christ is the Master for a reason; everything He did was by direction of and for the glory of the Father. What an awesome example! Do great things with God - for God's glory!

James 4:10 AMP

Humble yourselves [feeling very insignificant] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up and make your lives significant].

I am quite convinced that the secret to success is all about positioning. While the majority of the world climb ladders and step on those around them to ascend, Wisdom whisper's a beaconing plea to the narrow road and a small gateway. This still, small voice speaks of the perfect position to take in order to reach one's full potential. Only the brave may proceed; those with the courage to risk it all.

"Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord" It sounds so lofty and noble. The reality of this call brings a sobering realization: Pride must die so that humility can live. The pass to proceed is the requirement to step away from the game and the crowd in order to knee alone before God. This is the proving ground of our commitment. Are we dedicated to Christianity as a movement (entrapped by its laws and politics) or to Christ Himself (transformed by and perpetuating the gift of God's grace)? Are we willing to walk alone, if that's where we are the most receptive and obedient? Are we willing to do whatever necessary to live simply, tenderly and humbly before the Father?

These are not easy questions; they provoke emotions, questions and maybe even some fears. Hopefully, instead of avoiding them we will honestly confront them with God and look to Him for wisdom and guidance. As we bring all these things before Him, He will lead us. As we humble ourselves, He will change us. He will make our lives truly meaningful - beautiful from the inside out.

What begins in secret and in silence, as we kneel humbly before Him, will be shouted from the mountain top. The praise within in the prayer closet will resound for all to hear. Our lives will become an anthem of His great goodness and glory. Our God Reigns!

Psalm 27:4 MSG

I'm asking God for one thing,
      only one thing:
To live with him in his house
      my whole life long.
   I'll contemplate his beauty;
      I'll study at his feet.

Have you ever had one of those weird dreams at night that sticks in your mind for days? Today's blog begins with a dream I had last night that I know I won't forget to quickly. I can't remember all the details, most of the setting and happenings were foggy. Basically, I was in the middle of a very chaotic place trying to bring resolution to the problems around me. I found myself very frustrated and unable to bring about change.

In the middle of the chaos I noticed a pattern; every time I looked to God I was enveloped by peace, consuming me from the inside - out. I noticed peace would also begin to spill over into the circumstances and it produced change. When I looked back to the problems the peace would slip away. I woke up amazed as I sensed the same physical peace awake, as when I was in the middle of my dream. It was a powerful reminder that my heart condition follows my focus.

David spoke of focus so well in Psalm 27 - He knew there were a hundred distractions around him and that he had to choose the number one goal. His "one thing" was the presence of God. David conveyed that he felt great when he keep God number one in his life. We are affected in the same way when we set our thoughts on the greatness of God.

There is no one so beautiful, so merciful, so wonderful as God. When our minds our focused on Him our hearts, our lives are filled with the sweet peace of His nature and His presence permeates everything in our lives. Keep your eyes focused on God and live the dream!

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Have you ever had a private, personal retreat where the key note speaker was God Himself? Have you ever carved out a whole afternoon, a day, a weekend to pray and meditate on the Word, focusing your thoughts on the goodness of God? I encourage you! I challenge you! Try it! Go to God and ask Him to help you grow in understanding of His great love and mercy; ask Him to open your heart to contain more of His grace. Open the Word to find where He speaks of His loving kindness - meditate on that truth! Go - expecting great things to happen! God will meet you and teach you and transform your life.

It was almost two years ago when I was making the very difficult decision of whether or not I would set aside a whole season of my life to pursue knowing God. I thought I was risking everything! I was so afraid of loosing what I had at that point - my "place" in my church; my "ministry". I took the risk and found out that all I held dear to that point was, like Paul said, "dung" in comparison to knowing God deeply, personally.

The most profound experience in life is intimacy with God. It is a private, personal relationship with Him that clarifies everything else. Purpose springs out of it; wisdom flows from it; healing and joy and deep soul peace are free gifts to all who pursue it.

Make your life count! Start with the cornerstone - knowing God - it will change everything! Don't just read this and not respond! Make an appointment to change your life. When can you meet up with God? You make the time! He'll make it worth it!

1 Corinthians 14:1

Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest]...

God loves us! His perfect love is the source of our salvation and personal satisfaction. Because of love, Christ gave up His throne in heaven to live as a carpenter's son on earth. He lived and died and rose again, conquering death, sin and the devil. All because of love!

Because of love, we are redeemed. Because of love, we are transformed from death to life, darkness to light, doom to hope! "For God so loved the world...(John 3:16)" Keep your mind fixed on that truth! You and I are fully loved. Receive it, research it and rejoice in it and your soul will be deeply satisfied!

God loves you! It's Sunday School simplicity but if you focus and found your life on that one simple truth - everything changes! Go after it! Study the Word, memorize the passages that encourage your heart to believe. Earnestly seek to acquire it and make it your great quest and highest goal.

One simple truth will change everything... "Jesus loves me, this I know."

Hebrews 12:15&16

Exercise foresight and be on the watch to look [after one another], to see that no one falls back from and fails to secure God's grace (His unmerited favor and spiritual blessing), in order that no root of resentment (rancor, bitterness, or hatred) shoots forth and causes trouble and bitter torment, and the many become contaminated and defiled by it--

16That no one may become guilty of sexual vice, or become a profane (godless and sacrilegious) person as Esau did, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

I woke up this morning with this verse in my heart. I thought about it for a little while and then went on with the day. Sundays are always busy with church, cooking, family, clean up and then watching my husband take his afternoon nap to the sound of the biggest football game of the day. Typical Sunday.

Later as I was winding down for the evening, I turned on a previously recorded TV show with Bible teacher, Joseph Prince. And... there it was again! Heb 12:15 I strongly encourage you to search online for his teaching - great sound teaching on the grace of God.

God's grace is critical in our lives! It IS God's method for saving us. We are saved BY Grace! That grace is so important to our lives in that it also KEEPS us from evil. It truly is a miracle from heaven - salvation and blessing is ours completely in the finished work of Jesus Christ. His great work sets us free so that we can now have and enjoy life! He makes us rich in the fullness of life - so that we can become a Clearinghouse of righteousness, peace and joy for others - pointing them to our Savior!!

God's grace is truly life altering! When we embrace it - life is amazing! When we get distracted or try to live without it - whoa! We are like dead men walking. Praise God for grace!

Grace! In its pure form - it IS amazing!

Proverbs 29:25
Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

Today I'm going to be very real with you about an area we all face in life: trusting God for divinely appointed connections. Recently I was asking God for vindication in a matter, requesting honor in the eyes of some people I would like to be honored by. I had a sobering thought cross my mind that I believe was a warning from the Lord. The thought was this: how do you know that favor won't enslave you to those individuals? If you crave honor from people and get it, do you really think you'll be able to handle their respect? I don't know about you but when I seek honor from man my eyes, my vision, is distracted.

So, right here, right now, I admit to you my sin of longing for man's approval. Nothing compares to knowing and loving God and sensing His approval. He crowns us with glory and honor. His honor is the only source of healthy honor that will strengthen, not divide, our hearts. I encourage you to learn from my mistake and keep God's opinion your central motivation.

Daniel 2:21

He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.

There are seasons of waiting that cycle often throughout life; long moments of anticipation. Seeds planted long ago and watered over time will break through and become fruitful.

Are you waiting for breakthrough? Are there circumstances that seem impossible? Walls that look impenetrable? Remind yourself of Who is in control. Keep believing for God's sovereign will and power to be evident in your life. He is in control of the times and seasons. He will be faithful to keep His Word - He watches over it to perform it. In the mean time, while you wait, make sure you are sowing the seeds of hope and faith. Plant your faith in God with every thought and word. He is faithful!

Matthew 9:13

Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy [that is, readiness to help those in trouble] and not sacrifice...

Matthew 12:7

And if you had only known what this saying means, I desire mercy [readiness to help, to spare, to forgive] rather than sacrifice and sacrificial victims, you would not have condemned the guiltless.

Mercy. Take a moment to to try to imagine it - see it in motion. Mercy is a powerful, divine attribute that opens the door between God and man. Everytime we choose mercy and make it our objective we become God's door keeper on the earth. There is nothing natural about it - we are Christian when we behave like Jesus and show what the Father is like. The world best sees God when His people humble themselves and walk in mercy.

So how do we humble ourselves and live mercifully? We have to begin by quieting our own lives and receiving mercy for ourselves, allowing the mercy of God to deal with all of our sin. Recognizing and experiencing mercy personally on a continual basis qualifies us to be representatives of God's amazing grace and measureless mercy.

This is God's greatest desire for us: that we would know Him, living by and dispensing His mercy.

"I set myself on fire and people come and watch me burn". -John Wesley;

No one sets out to live a boring life. No one dreams of a meaningless existence without any sense of expectancy. Why is it then, that the bulk of humanity willingly lives out meaningless lives? Why do so many settle to do the basic level of work and give the minimal amount of investment required? The shallow commitment always results in deep dissatisfaction; this is a plight within our culture. We forsake any true sense of purpose and settle for the surreal world of entertainment. Instead of stretching to see potential fulfilled, society settles for anything to distract from reality and numb the pain of wandering. It’s time to awaken the mighty ones.

We were created by the great genius of the universe, The Great I AM. God's design for humanity is sketched out and formulated to reflect the artistry, genius and passion of Himself. The blue prints of this dream are sealed within our spirit, ready to be released and lived out through the miracle of salvation.

My prayer for you is that this Divinely planted destiny, deep within your heart, would be realized. My hope for you is that you will not be hypnotized by the apathy and hopelessness of this culture, settling for whatever floats downstream. Instead, I pray that you will rise up and be the pioneers of this generation forging ahead and cutting a path through the mediocrity and the media to find the great treasure awaiting you in Christ.

Invest time in pursuit of a greater knowledge of God. Pray! Fast! Be in the Word of God, so that you can get to know Him accurately. Become a vessel wholly filled and flooded with God Himself. Let His goodness overcome your life and light a fire within you. Live - burning with passion for Christ!

Romans 12:2 Amplified Version

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

God's vision for our lives is so wonderful; His plan is so amazing! It can be a real challenge for us to conceive, to really grasp a hold of  what He has in mind for us. In order for us to get this vision for ourselves we have to have a complete mind change. We have to move from limited human thinking into the God-zone where we recognize His power and understand His purposes. Many people consider this to be impossible - but it is totally possible!

Jesus came to save us but He also came to reveal to us that God's thoughts are available to us. That's why He spent so much time teaching people; He intends for us to know the thoughts of God. In order to live the life God has intended for us to live we will have to do a complete liquidation of our limited, negative thinking and take in the new inventory of God's wisdom and understanding. As we study the Word and meditate on it our minds become transformed into the Christ-like computer it is intended to be - processing life with the intelligence of God instead of the tainted foolishness of humanity.

This is the key to living daily life with the hope of meeting your full potential. Renew your mind with His thoughts and you will live the good life - full of wisdom, knowledge and understanding; taught and lead by the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 6:33

Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness

and all these things will be added unto you.

Firsts are important. God asks us to be very deliberate with our lives – orderly. He gives us the power and authority to choose for ourselves and tells us that those choices will bring consequences. Our choices matter. It matters how we do things. There is a mandatory order required for life to have a good result. There really is! When we put God first He promises us that every other good thing that is needed in life will be added. That means when God is #1, He sees to it that #2 through infinity is attended to. Think about that! That’s really amazing!

We really have nothing to fear – we will never lack anything good when God is first!

Jeremiah 22:16

He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" declares the LORD.

I love God! And because I love Him, I love to study the Bible! I could spend hours a day going from verse to verse, comparing Greek and Hebrew, finding ways that God's wisdom is woven throughout the Word. When I study I get to know Him better... better, but not fully. God is alive and very present in the world. He is an actual being - present on the earth. He's not isolated to one location but is Omni-present (all, ever-present).

Here is a mystery: God is close to the broken hearted, therefore, when we turn our focus and energy towards those in need we walk into a place that's very close to the heart of God. He is with those who are suffering! I enjoy learning about Him in the Word. But I love living with Him in the world; going where He is at work and being His helper. I will always give myself to study - it helps me know the truth. But to really know God requires more than study - it requires me to go to the place where He is at work.

The Kingdom of God is at Hand – Jesus is coming SOON!

Are you ready? Get yourself ready – make the necessary changes.

Seek First the Kingdom! This is no time for maligned focus. Be eternity minded! Quit trying to perfect this life into a form of heaven - it’s not. It’s the world! Set your heart on things above and keep it set. Simply stated: Love God more than life!

Be in the Word! Lies and fear will increase; you must be grounded by the Truth of God’s Word and the Faith that springs from hearing that Word. Cling to Christ – the living Word and depend on Him wholeheartedly. Make His Word - your words.

Pray! "Pray in the Spirit and with understanding." "Pray without ceasing." Pray for each other continually.

Encourage One Another! The enemy is seeking to wear out the saints – to tear them down, to bring division and discouragement. Now, more than ever we’ve got to speak life and strength into each other.

II Chron 19:11

... Deal courageously [be strong and do], and may the Lord be with the good!

Pray daring prayers. Surrender all your concerns and crises To God. Believe that He is at work within you, freeing you up to forget about yourself & go to work for the good of others. Then "Deal courageously... " II Chron 19:11.

Prayer will prepare you to be His hands & feet, His smile, provision & healing, His messenger to someone in need. Effective prayer doesn't just move the hand of God - it should also move you.

Proverbs 21:25

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.

Isaiah 8:13

The Lord of hosts--regard Him as holy and honor His holy name [by regarding Him as your only hope of safety], and let Him be your fear and let Him be your dread [lest you offend Him by your fear of man and distrust of Him].

God alone possesses all power and wisdom! He is the embodiment of goodness. And the wonder of it all - He employs His strength on our behalf! It puts the mind on tilt and boggles the imagination! He pours out power in all forms: grace, favor, wisdom and every perfect gift needed for life and godliness because He loves us! His perfect love inspires and drives Him to our rescue! Amazing love - how can it be!

With a love like that to lean on; with a Father like that to depend on; with a wonderful, merciful, kind King like that to worship - why would we bow to anyone else?

Fear of man is literally like bowing our lives down to the opinion and power of mere mortals - people, no different than ourselves. We were created to live powerful, beautiful, free lives; enjoying the sweet security given by God Almighty. Don't fear people and forget God! He loves you completely! Instead, forget about public opinion and fear the Lord; you will find yourself enjoying Him, enjoying your life and even enjoying other people like never before!

Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is a powerful place to live, where your heart is so enamored with God that kings, heroes & even enemies are all leveled to mere mortals; where earthly treasure seems cheap and trite. It is a place created by the revelation of God's great love. Nothing has impacted my life like the knowledge that I am dearly, deeply & completely loved by God. My greatest delight has & always will be the liberty I have in Christ.

For decades I lived my life cowering before people I perceived as powerful; then God straightened my sights by lifting my head. I spent 30 days studying the Word, soaking in the truth that God loves me. I meditated on it day and night. I took it to heart and it transformed my life. My heart literally dances within me when I see those who used to intimidate me. I almost laugh at the thought of how I used to feel in their presence. Now God alone is great and Jesus alone is Lord. It's a wonderful place, a powerful place to live. I am free to love all people and serve all people equally. I love Him because He first loved me!

I dare you to do spend 30 days soaking in love! You will never be the same!

Jeremiah 9:23&24

This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,

24 but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
       justice and righteousness on earth,
       for in these I delight,"
       declares the LORD
.

There is nothing on this earth that has the right to our confident trust but God alone. Knowing God - really knowing Him is the essence of true living. In Christ we are promised this intimacy; the closest, sweetest relationship possible with the Father. By the Holy Spirit we are taught and given knowledge, through the written Word, so that we can know and trust the Father fully. The adventure and thrill of a lifetime is found in knowing Him.

Solomon was told by his father, David, (Prov 4:7) "in all your getting, get understanding." This is wise counsel from one generation to another. The greatest achievement in life is to know and understand the heart of God. We will have no greater fulfillment, no greater glory on this earth than the experience of pursuing and growing in the knowledge of God. Those who seek Him, find Him. And those who find Him are forever changed!

John 1:16&17

From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:8

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

Proverbs 3:34 & James 4:6

He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

The words of the ancient hymn "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found; was blind but now I see" brings such a wave of inspiration to my soul! I love to sing them with the thought that someone a hundred years ago felt what I feel and knew what I know today and that spanning time and space, we have sung the same song, giving praise to God. It's not just true of the centuries but for millenniums of time - God's grace has brought wonder to the hearts of humanity.

This week I spoke to a dear young person who was touched by a youth evangelistic outreach called "The 99". This young man, who had been saved for several years, was shaken by the images of hell. He fearfully considered his own life and questioned his salvation. When I inquired about his concerns it became clear that he had developed the idea that he was responsible for his salvation. He gave credit to Jesus Christ for the origin of his faith, but had the idea that if his behavior was perfect he remained saved. He had totally forgotten about grace.

It's very easy, even for seemingly very good reasons, to pick up a sense of responsibility for our salvation, as if to say "Jesus did such a great work - I should really do my part and take it from here". This reasoning may also suggest "If Christ died to save me, then shouldn't I live up to His gift? Should I work to become perfect, worthy of His redemption?" It sounds noble, doesn't it? However, if we could work ourselves up to perfection it was unnecessary for Christ to have come to save us. We cannot save or keep ourselves. But, Praise God - He can!

This is the reason we give such jubilant and unending praise to God! Only He can save, heal and deliver to the uttermost - even to the completion of His good work in us. Yes! We will do our utmost to co-operate with Him; we must hate what is evil and cling to good! But He alone is the Savior, the Redeemer - forever! Oh, Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise the God of grace!

1 Cor 14:1a

EAGERLY PURSUE and seek to acquire [this] love

[make it your aim, your great quest]...

If I were able to pass along only one compelling message to my children it would be this:

Don't limit yourself to love based on your preferences. Anyone can do that. That kind of love is shallow. You want more out of life than that! Go deeper! Find out what very few people ever discover - the mystery of Divine love.

"Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, you great quest]".

Acquire and become a distributor of God's perfect love. It will take great effort on your part; requiring you to lay down your life. It will demand of you - diligence and an ever-listening, teachable heart, heeding the prompting of the Holy Spirit. It will require much of you BUT it will also reward you beyond comprehension.

A life consumed by the love of God transforms the heart into a state of perpetual awe; energized by grace; overflowing in faith. The greatest secret to a fulfilling life is found first in God's great love for us individually and secondly, in the realization that it is NOT in being loved by others that we are satisfied but rather in giving love that we find true joy. As God's love flows in and through our hearts, our joy is made full.

2 John 1:6

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

Would like to have the assurance that you will reach your potential and fulfill God's plan for your life? Living life to the fullest is the dream of every human being. God has given us the key to living life well. Every directive set within the Word is His guidance prompting us toward His perfect will - seeking to position us right in the middle of His very best. Obedience to His wise instruction creates positive change within us and in our circumstances. Obedience brings blessing - not because it's earned but because it positions us in His will where His blessing resides. Fulfilling the will of God is simple, but not easy.

Since the beginning of time God has communicated with man, in detail, His commandments. To learn them all and practice them would be a taxing, complicated weight - praise God for Christ Jesus. Jesus provided the new covenant, taking away the sin of the world and weight of the Law. He communicated in simple terms the heart of the Father concerning all commandments. To sum it all up God's desire is that we would live our lives like Christ, who went around doing good whenever he could. Matthew 7:12 says very simply that we are to be good to people. That's God's command for us.

Fulfill the will of God - life up to your potential. Learn from the Father about the wonders of love and become Love's ambassador. You will find yourself day after day, living the good life and enjoying it fully as you obey the Father, living as a distributor of Love.

Exodus 15:26

He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."

Deut 30:19&20

... Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life...

1 Sam 30:10

... "Speak, for your servant is listening."

There is no greater experience than hearing the still small voice of God as He gives direction, correction or the expression of His love. God is always ready to give us the exact wisdom or encouragement we need at any given moment. He is always ready to speak. Are you ready to listen?

Before the lie has one moment to jump into your thoughts... remember that He has already promised that His "sheep know His voice and the voice of another they will not follow". Yes, you can hear His voice! You may not be acutely aware of it, but you are able to hear Him. He promised! And He never breaks a promise.

Open your heart and mind to Him and thank Him for His love. Thank Him for speaking into your life. Then, listen for the voice of wisdom; listen for the messages of hope and love. God is speaking and He is talking directly to you. Open up your heart and listen!

Make a quiet place in your day today and every day. Meditate on this promise - God speaks to His people. He wants to talk to you. He's calling you to listen. Open His Word - the Bible. Open your heart - Listen! Enjoy!

Proverbs 14:23

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

Acts 20:35

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

1 Cor 4:12

We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;

Last Sunday marked a special day - my Mother's birthday. She is an amazing lady, constantly helping people around her community and within her church. One of the most significant accomplishments my mother has made is her endowment of a hard work ethic, successfully imparted to three children. Those are pretty amazing odds - three for three! That work ethic has been the backbone of success in our lives.

In a day when "Easy Street" is constantly crowded, those individuals who will go the extra mile, do the hard thing and give their best to whatever they are called to do - those people are leaders! When we develop a lifestyle where we are willing to lead ourselves, doing what's right regardless of how much it costs or any sacrifice suffered, we become worthy of the responsibility of public leadership.

There are unfortunate examples in our world of individuals who have become lax with their self leadership. Never let that be said of us; let us be excellent at what is good and give whole hearted devotion to all our efforts. Work from deep within, empowered by your heart and your hand will have the strength to do great things.

Give yourself to few tasks but to those tasks give your whole self.

A prayer for my children and their generation:

I pray that you will have the creativity required to conceive a God size dream           - never limiting God.

I pray that you will have the courage required to see it through                                       – despite challenge, trial or the change it will require in you.

And, I pray that you will have the compassion required to keep the dream pure        – all for the sake of love; for the glory of God and the good of humanity.

1 Cor 2:9-10

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived

what God has prepared for those who love him"

but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit...

Before you read the following verses, slow yourself down. Be willing to contemplate the concepts within each verse. Allow yourself the time to respond, being moved and motivated by the love of God. May His heart become our heart. May we move passed a concern for our own righteousness, trusting Him for it and may we enter into the compelling compassion of God for a broken world.

Psalm 116:5

The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.

Psalm 145:9

The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.

Matthew 9:36

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

1 Peter 3:8

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

Romans 13:8

[ Love, for the Day is Near ] Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Romans 15:7

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

1 Peter 1:22

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

John 13:35

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Hidden in an inconspicuous place in my office at work, I have a quote from Mother Teresa that inspires me each day.

"They may not remember what you said or what you did; but they will remember how you made them feel."

I work everyday for Christian organization that serves the general public, caring for those in need. I am aware that many people I speak to each day may have heard of God but they do not know God.

As I do my work, I am soberly aware that I have the choice to be a stepping stone or just another hard rock on their path. What I do or say is really pretty insignificant compared to what I offer their soul. So, with that in mind I make this challenge to myself and you: Let's constatnly keep our goals and motives in the fire. Burn off the useless and let God make us use-full to this world. Let's  "Get real" - so that people will "get" God. Here's a few firey questions:

Do I just try to be impressive? Do I want to be the hero? Do I want to sound smart and wise? OR, do I want them to get a glimpse of mercy and bring a sense of grace into their lives with the hope that they will "taste and see that God is good"? Do I personally fill my own heart with His Word and cling to Him as my hope - so that when I'm leading others I have a cycle of  love already in motion?

I encourage you today - dive deep into God's love for you. Freshen up in His wonderful grace and then jump right into your schedule, full of strength and inspiring hope. Be good to people, loving them unconditionally. Let that love flow unhindered through you. Be that stepping stone that lifts them closer to God. It will change the landscape of people's lives!
