Reader Question:
Hi, i just want to find out if you have made mistakes and have messed up a few times but have finally come back to the Lord and repented and sincerely want to make your life right with God. Will he honestly forgive you or will your past mistakes still be held against you? or do you need to face up to your mistakes by admitting the truth to those you may have hurt or betrayed?
Answer:
We have certainly made our fair share of mistakes! Thankfully, even though we might “leave” God, He never leaves us. I John 1:9 says: “If confess our sins (mistakes), He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (mistakes) and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The Word of God also says, “As far as the East is from the West, so far has He removed our transgressions (mistakes) from us.”(Psalm 103:12). Think about how far that is – you can continue on into infinity, and east and west will never meet! God is waiting with open arms for the repentant heart, and He knows your sincerity. I encourage you to read the entire chapter of Psalm 103.
The Bible does tell us in 2 Corinthians 5:10 and Romans 14:12 that someday before the judgment seat we will all have to give an account for the things we have done while in our human body, whether honorable or not so honorable. But if we are believers in Jesus Christ, the blood of the Lamb has covered our sins from God’s eyes and His anger is against us no more. Praise God!!!
Regardless of whether you admit your mistakes to others, God will still extend His forgiveness to you. Then if He directs you to confess to someone you have hurt or to make things right, then be obedient to Him and trust Him for the results.
Then stand firm in the knowledge of God’s goodness, and look back no more! |
