IS YOUR CAR IN PARK?
by Dawn Sneden
Her hands were on the wheel, her foot was on the gas, but she was going nowhere. What was the problem? Looking down, she realized that she had never shifted the car into “Drive”.
Do you ever feel like you are working hard but going nowhere, not knowing what the problem is? Maybe your life is in “Park”. We have been given so much – time, talent, energy, resources – but we don’t feel like we make any progress. Maybe it’s time to move out of the natural and into the supernatural.
In so many instances in the Bible, God chose to move supernaturally after someone was obedient in the natural. Examples:
- Moses raised his arms, but God parted the seas
- Joshua and his warriors marched, but God brought Jericho down
- Elijah built the stone altar to refute Baal, but God burned it up
- Noah made the ark, but God kept them from drowning
- Ruth gleaned in Boaz’ field, but God gave her favor
- Esther approached the king, but God moved the king’s heart
God has given each of us amazing talents, but He asks us to take the first step of moving out of the natural – putting the car in “Drive”. Once we move out with him, he will use our natural talents and abilities supernaturally. He wants us to steer and use the brake and gas, but God should ultimately be the source for our movement and our results. “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13) and “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8). I believe that receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the best way to put your car in “Drive”. If you want to more fully understand this baptism, I recommend that you read the last couple chapters of John and the entire book of Acts. A source for in-depth study would be Charisma’s Bible Handbook on the Holy Spirit (written by John Rea, Th.D. and published by Creation House, 1998).
As the end of this age comes at us in fast forward, we have a lot of work to do in the Kingdom. But do not fear – we have been given the power we need to do the task. Instead of spinning our wheels in Park, let’s put our car in Drive. God’s adventure for us is just waiting to be seen!
